One of the most important steps in setting up your JobTrac program is taking the time to enter the Companies and Contacts that you do business with on a daily basis. This includes the companies that are involved with the project as well as your suppliers, vendors and competitors. This is all well and good until you replace your database. Replacing your database from time to time gives you access to all the latest and greatest Assemblies, new database items and performance enhancements. As of this Tip of the Week, the latest JobTrac database version is 4.0.244.0. It can be downloaded from the ConEst Community Center at http://bbs.conest.com

Note: Next week’s tip will demonstrate how to replace a new database for those of you who are not certain how it is accomplished.

Once your new database has been installed, you will notice that all your Companies and Contacts have vanished. No worries, the previous version of the database has all that information already entered, there is no need to re-enter that information again in JobTrac. Simply import those Companies and Contacts right into the new database in a matter of seconds.

This is how it’s done:

  1. Open JobTrac.
  2. Click on the Companies / Contacts button on the left Navigation bar.
  3. At the top of the screen, click on the ‘ Black Triangle ‘ on the Import icon.
  4. Select ‘ Import SQL Contacts
  5. Make certain the ‘ Connection ‘ drop-down menu displays your previous SQL database Connection.
  6. Click the ‘ OK ‘ button

A dialog box opens displaying the Companies in the SQL Database. Place a check in each box next to the company you’d like to import into JobTrac, then click ‘ OK ‘. That’s it !

Note: Keep in mind, Importing your Companies and Contacts is not limited to importing into JobTrac only. Since JobTrac and IntelliBid share the same SQL database, when the database is replaced for JobTrac, it is replaced for IntelliBid as well. Follow the same steps above to import your Companies and Contacts into IntelliBid.
